SCP-138 is a man who cannot die, but that does not mean his body can heal. The Foundation found him in 2006, alive inside a sarcophagus in an Egyptian tomb near Tutankhamen's. He is suspected to be more than four thousand years old, although his precise origins remain unknown. He speaks a dialect of ancient Egyptian, and a civilian translator establishes only a little about his past. His burial appears to have served a religious purpose that the file cannot explain. His condition is the opposite of the healthy, regenerating immortal familiar from other stories. His muscles and organs are severely atrophied, his nervous system is badly damaged, and he carries injuries that should have killed him. The damage does not regenerate. His body simply continues functioning despite it, while attempts that should destroy the body have also failed. The attached injury record separates ancient wounds from later attempts to end his suffering. The older injuries include a cut throat and seventeen wounds to the torso. Foundation-authorized euthanasia attempts added burns across his entire body and further internal and nervous-system damage. He survived twenty minutes in an industrial incinerator. Unofficial attempts by other personnel left throat trauma and two gunshot wounds to the head. Those details are not evidence that he feels nothing. He is in constant agony and has repeatedly requested euthanasia. No successful method has been found, whether officially approved or attempted outside the research program. His Safe classification therefore describes a subject who needs little containment, not someone whose existence is painless or medically stable. The present procedure keeps him in a chemically induced coma for humanitarian reasons. It does not repair his injuries or explain his survival.
