Wiglaf wears a pendant carrying a glamour Adraste made for him. Its purpose is to help him blend in when he goes off campus. That is an artifact doing something practical and protective without becoming a battlefield weapon.
Lance also has a book containing a spell he hopes will send his present self back into his past body in Wonderland. He wants to take his knowledge and the sword back with him so he can prevent what happened to his parents.
That is the plan described in the scene, not proof that he successfully travels through time. It is also important to keep the source of the proposed effect straight: Lance is reading a spell from the book. Time travel shouldn't simply be added to Calesvol's powers because he happens to be holding the sword at the same time.
