Mistilteinn contributes the blue stone's ability to summon the weapon when it is needed. Its earlier wielder explains that the magic is in the sword, and that it appears in his hand when he needs it. Ordella later explains the same property as part of Lysraseri. When Sela's sword disappears at the end of the lesson, Ordella tells her it is being kept somewhere safe and will appear when she needs it. Chrysaor contributes the gold stone's purifying power. Sela encounters Sir Artegall wielding it against the creatures in his cave, and Ordella explains that its power is particularly useful against the Horde. That gives Lysraseri four distinct functions: fire, healing, summoning and purification. It also gives the sword four different histories. Some of those histories are heroic; others are much less comfortable. Sela's lesson includes the people using the weapons, not just a list of impressive effects.
