POST 1 OF 4: TWO RELATIONSHIPS DURING A FRACTURED ERA Spoilers through the end of the Muir Island Saga: Uncanny X-Men #280 and X-Factor #70. That's where I'm at in my chronological reading, so that's where I'm stopping. I want to go ahead and do two posts, one about Wolverine and Jubilee and one about Storm and Gambit, because they both had a very unique dynamic during the era that I'm reading right now. Then I want to close with Professor Xavier looking at everything that's come back together and basically wondering what the hell he's going to do with 14 X-Men. Wolverine's obviously my favorite character. I've posted a lot about him before, but I wanted to do something specific toward him and Jubilee's relationship. Thinking about how they came together made me think about Storm and Gambit, because both of those relationships developed while the X-Men were fractured and scattered. Jubilee came in at a weird time. She found her way into their world, ended up hiding in their Australian base, and then became the person who helped keep Wolverine alive when he was on death's doorstep. Gambit met Storm while she had been turned back into a child, and the two of them ended up working together as thieves before he came back into the X-Men's world with her. Both characters got introduced and partnered with a specific X-Man. They came from different backgrounds, and the relationships themselves were different, but you got to watch them grow through actually relying on each other. They were surviving together, protecting each other, getting into trouble together, and eventually finding their place with the others. That's what I want to get into. How Jubilee and Wolverine grew into that deep father slash daughter connection, how Storm and Gambit became partners in crime, and how those individual connections helped bring new people into a team that had spent so much of this period falling apart.
