5/12 Hodge's treatment of Warren follows the same willingness to use somebody's vulnerability. Warren gets his wings badly injured during the Mutant Massacre. Hodge takes advantage of what follows, including arranging the court process that allows the wings to be amputated against Warren's wishes. The amputation is in X-Factor #14. The explosion of Warren's plane follows in #15, and Hodge's involvement is part of the betrayal that gets exposed. He has money and control to gain from Warren's apparent death, while everybody around Warren is left dealing with what they believe happened to their friend. I'm keeping the focus on Hodge here because Warren's transformation is its own story. But you can't leave out how much Hodge contributed to destroying the life Warren had before that transformation. He had a position where he could have helped somebody who trusted him. Instead, he used the injury, the legal situation, and Warren's resources to strengthen his own position.
