13/14 Wolverine gets infected again in this arc, and #234 makes it clear that his earlier survival doesn't give him a free pass. He goes through another transformation, with the Brood briefly asserting itself before his healing factor purges the embryo and Logan regains control. Reverend William Connover stays with him and prays during that struggle instead of abandoning him because of what he looks like. The scene puts someone offering help right next to a transformation that would give most people every reason to run. Afterward, Connover publicly stands up for the X-Men. They have been fighting to protect people who don't necessarily understand them or trust them. There is a lot happening around the Brood fight, but Wolverine surviving that second infection reinforces the point I started with. His healing factor can do something extraordinary, and the story still makes him go through hell before he comes out the other side.
