The Brood come back during the Australia period in Uncanny X-Men #232–234, although the actual outbreak happens around Denver. This time Harry Palmer, a paramedic, becomes infected after encountering the aliens at a crash site in New Mexico.
He gets back to ordinary life carrying the problem with him and spreads it among mutants. The X-Men are trying to find out how far it has already gone, while Harry himself isn't consistently aware of what is happening inside him.
That makes him difficult to assess. Looking human and having human thoughts doesn't mean the Brood isn't there. Wolverine recognizes the danger, but the team also needs information about the people Harry has infected.
It's a different kind of setting from Broodworld. There are streets, buses, emergency workers, police, and people going about their lives. An outbreak can grow right in the middle of all of that before everyone understands what they're facing.
