7/14 Carol becoming Binary comes out of this story too. The Brood's experimentation on her genetic structure unlocks an enormous new level of power. By #164, she's operating on a cosmic scale, and that changes what she can contribute to the fight. That's an important part of the Brood story because their treatment of people keeps having consequences beyond the immediate attack. They interfere with living bodies and assume they're going to control the outcome. Carol becomes someone they absolutely do not want coming back at them. Her role matters all the way through the resolution. The X-Men need more than a way off the planet, and Binary has the power to help do something that the others can't accomplish on their own. Carol's change also belongs to her own history. It shouldn't get lost just because the story has so much going on with Wolverine, Storm, the X-Men, and the Brood's larger plans.
