6/14 The X-Men being infected doesn't mean they spend the entire story completely under the Brood's control. They still struggle, think, argue, and try to get each other out. That makes the situation worse in its own way, because they're still themselves while the threat is growing inside them. In #163, Logan rescues Carol Danvers from the Brood's experiments. Carol is being subjected to evolutionary changes, with her body altered while their scientists study her. After everything she's already been through, she's being treated like another experiment. Cyclops and Storm are dealing with disturbing experiences of their own as the infection works on them. The escape takes cooperation from people who are already in danger from within. There is also a growing disagreement over how far to go against the Queen. Wolverine knows what the Brood have done to them. He isn't looking at the situation as an ordinary fight they can finish and walk away from.
