11/ The Demon Bear story shows why this team needs her. Dani is badly injured, and Illyana protects the operating room with magical wards while the others fight. When Magma is being transformed, Illyana uses the Soulsword to free her. Sam initially thinks he's watching her attack a teammate, because he doesn't understand what the sword is doing. Eventually he helps Illyana strike the Bear, freeing Dani's parents. That misunderstanding says a lot about her place on the team. Something she does to save somebody can look horrifying if you don't know how her magic works. Her friends have to learn to trust her, and she has to work with people who can't immediately understand everything she does. [New Mutants #20](https://t.co/SPi9QURxTr)
