9/9 There's also the short Hulk story in Marvel Comics Presents #78, where Selene tries to get his attention and discovers he's perfectly willing to refuse her. It's a smaller encounter than the X-Men conflicts, but it gives her arrogance a very different audience. [Story reference: Marvel Comics Presents #78](https://t.co/IZkZ39n6a2) So at the point I've reached, Selene's history runs from Nova Roma into New York, through her conflicts with Amara and Rachel, her place in the Hellfire Club, and the bargains and fights that follow. Her life-draining ability is central to that history. So are her control over inanimate material and her use of magic. She's also comfortable using worship, political influence, and other people's loyalties. The early stories already give her several ways to put people under her control without needing to bring in anything from later comics. Amara has the family history with her. Rachel has the experience of being hunted and seeing Nicholas killed. The Hellfire Club gives Selene resources, but also puts her among people who are constantly trying to outmaneuver each other. That's the Selene covered here: the character established in the material before and through my current reading point. Anything revealed or changed afterward can wait until I actually get to it.
