5/9 The Kulan Gath story shows another side of how she operates. When Manhattan is transformed by his magic, Selene is an old enemy with her own plans. Opposing him doesn't make her trustworthy. She uses a magical disguise to exchange her appearance with Amara's. The person apparently captured as Selene is actually Amara, while Selene stays with the people fighting Gath. Rachel knows something is wrong but is magically prevented from exposing it. Selene is willing to let the heroes fight their way through the danger for her. Once Gath is overcome, she intends to take control herself and extend the spell. Getting rid of one sorcerer would leave everyone dealing with another. Warlock and Storm become crucial to stopping her. Storm accepts a techno-organic transformation and uses that power against Selene. The story's altered reality is ultimately undone, so those events don't leave the regular cast permanently dead or transformed. It's a fairly clear demonstration of the problem with accepting Selene as an ally. Her interests might overlap with yours for a while. You still have to watch what she's arranging behind your back.
