2/9 Amara's part of this is especially ugly. Selene intends to sacrifice her, and tells her that she took her mother too. At the same time, Gallio's plans threaten Amara's father and the republic. Her family is being attacked from both directions. Dani is also caught up in the sacrifices. She manages to fight through the drugs and tries to intervene, but Selene can overpower her and recognizes that these children have abilities like her own. Meeting them gives Selene an interest in the world outside her exile. During the struggle, Amara falls into the lava. That's when her powers manifest and she comes back in the fiery form we know as Magma. Selene's attempt to kill her has helped bring out the power that can fight back against her. The New Mutants eventually defeat Selene and leave her sealed inside the volcano in #11, but she survives. That history matters whenever Amara encounters her again. Selene has threatened her family, her home, and her own life. Amara has very specific reasons to go after her.
