8/15 Her fight with Sabretooth during the Mutant Massacre is important here. The mansion has wounded people in it, and Sabretooth is a serious threat to them. Betsy puts herself in his way and helps keep him occupied. Once Wolverine is fighting him, she gets into Sabretooth's mind for information about the Marauders. She doesn't suddenly become stronger than Sabretooth. That isn't what makes it work. She takes the risk, uses the abilities she has, and gives the others a chance. Wolverine recognizes that afterward and backs her becoming an X-Man. That is the Betsy I wanted more of. She could contribute in a fight without every contribution having to be a physical beating. There was room for her to be frightened, be outmatched physically, and still be somebody you absolutely wanted on your side. And that doesn't make her less of a fighter. What she does in that issue is how she earns her place on the team. (Uncanny X-Men #213.)
