3/15 Then there's S.T.R.I.K.E., where Betsy is part of the psychic division. She's involved with another telepath, Tom Lennox, and the whole thing gets ugly when Vixen's takeover leads to Slaymaster hunting the psychics. Personally, the secret-agent part never felt like the best fit for her. I understand that it's part of her history, and it gives her experience before the X-Men. I just don't connect with that side as much as I do with Betsy on the team. But that period matters. She isn't somebody who reaches the mansion without having dealt with danger or losing people. During the Jaspers disaster, Tom stays behind while the others try to get away. He's killed, and Betsy experiences his death through their psychic connection. She also ends up caught in the persecution happening in that version of Britain. Being a telepath means somebody else's suffering can become something she actually feels. Tom's death is a pretty awful example of that. (The Daredevils #3–4; The Mighty World of Marvel #8–9, 1983 series.)
