By the Muir Island crisis, Rogue is back among the X-Men, with the Shadow King threatening people across the team. She's already had a very personal encounter with what he can do through the Carol duplicate. Look at how much has changed since Avengers Annual #10. She's gone from attacking heroes with the Brotherhood to risking her life beside the X-Men. She's had to earn trust, disagree with the people who raised her and deal with the consequences of something she did years ago. She can be confident, loud and ready to throw herself into a fight. She also has to live with the fact that simple physical contact can still be dangerous. That's a lot to carry while trying to build relationships. She keeps doing it anyway. The people around her have seen enough of her choices to know who she is trying to be, even when she has trouble giving herself that same credit.
