The Carol Danvers problem keeps getting worse in ways punching harder can't fix. During the Genosha ordeal, Rogue retreats from what has happened to her and Carol's personality takes over to help them survive. That gets them through the immediate danger, but it creates another problem afterward. Carol can act through Rogue's body. She has preferences, memories and ideas about what that body should be doing. Rogue has to deal with somebody else making decisions in her life. The battle with Master Mold takes Rogue through the Siege Perilous. When she finally comes out in Uncanny #269, the Carol personality has become a separate physical being. That version of Carol is corrupted by the Shadow King and comes after her. Rogue's old guilt is now standing in front of her, capable of killing her. Magneto intervenes in the Savage Land and saves Rogue. The separation changes her situation, but it doesn't undo what happened to the real Carol in the first place.
