Then she works out that Mariko and the little girl in her care could be targets for Ogun and tries to protect them. She's using what she knows, including her phasing, to make a plan. The plan doesn't make her stronger than Ogun. She still ends up in terrible danger. But when he tries to impose his control again, she refuses. She is calling herself Shadowcat now, and that refusal matters more than whether she can beat him in a straight fight. He can hurt her. He can still threaten her life. She has reached a point where that doesn't automatically give him the right to decide who she's going to be. Logan arrives because she needs help. She has already done something important before he gets there.
