Doug's death is where Warlock's difficulty understanding humans stops being funny.
In New Mutants #64, he takes Doug's body and tries to bring him back. From his perspective, giving somebody energy is how you help when they're depleted. He doesn't understand why that won't work this time.
For everybody looking at what he's doing, it's horrifying. Doug's body isn't something they expect to see walking around again. Warlock thinks he's helping his friend and the people who miss him.
Rahne is able to recognize that he's grieving too. He isn't mocking Doug or trying to hurt anybody. He just doesn't have the understanding he needs to accept what's happened.
Doug was often the one helping him understand human life. Now Doug is dead, and Warlock needs that help more than ever. The story doesn't let his unusual body make him immune to losing somebody. He has to learn that there are things his abilities can't repair, even when he's willing to give everything he has.
Doug's death is where Warlock's difficulty understanding humans stops being funny.
