The Asgard trip is important for Shan too, even if it tends to get remembered for Storm's hammer, Dani becoming a Valkyrie and Rahne meeting Hrimhari. Shan is still dealing with what the Shadow King did to her when she gets stranded in a desert. She finds a child who needs her help. Taking care of that child gives her something to keep going for when she's struggling to find a reason for herself. By the time she rejoins the others, she's survived that journey and is able to help against the Enchantress. It isn't just a costume change or a new setting for her. She's coming back from having her life and her body taken over. That experience also affects how she responds to Magneto as headmaster in New Mutants #35. She's not eager to let another powerful person decide what her life is going to be. He's dealing with students who have very different reasons to distrust authority, and Shan has one of the most immediate ones.
