Rahne Sinclair starts out running for her life from people who think she's a monster. And the man leading them is the same man who raised her. That's a hell of a starting point for a kid who's already terrified of what she's becoming. Reverend Craig has spent years teaching her to be ashamed of herself. When she turns into a wolf, it gives him something else to condemn her for. Moira protects her and gets her to Xavier. That's how Wolfsbane becomes one of the original New Mutants in Marvel Graphic Novel #4. She can become a wolf or take a form somewhere between wolf and human, with the senses, claws and teeth that come with it. But knowing what her mutation does doesn't undo what Craig put in her head. She's still carrying that upbringing into the school. It affects how she sees herself, other people, sex, magic, pretty much anything she was taught to fear. Getting away from him doesn't mean she's suddenly free of all of it.
