The Beyonder killing and restoring the team leaves Sam struggling along with the others. In #38, being alive again hasn't restored anything like their normal enthusiasm for school or training. He transfers to Emma Frost's Massachusetts Academy. Even the Hellions notice how unlike themselves these kids are. Sam is going through the motions around people he previously would have argued or competed with. Then Magneto comes for them, and the Avengers get involved. In #40, Sam won't abandon his former teacher. He recognizes that Magneto was trying to help, even if the transfer has put them in another bad situation. That gives the relationship something more concrete than Sam being told to trust the reformed villain. Magneto comes back for them, and Sam chooses to help him. The kids return together, but the fact that they needed this much help after being restored is part of the story.
