By the point I'm at now, Sean is active again after years of being pushed away from the main team by his injury. He's helped search for the missing X-Men and been involved in the Genosha crisis. His connection to Moira and Muir Island is still important, especially with things there going badly wrong. These are people he knows and cares about, not strangers who happen to need the X-Men. Looking back over this stretch, there are several different parts of his life the books can use: the earlier career, Black Tom, Theresa, Moira, and his history with the X-Men. He doesn't need to be reduced to the older guy who screams. He's somebody who's tried being on the team, tried living away from it, lost the power that made the first option possible, and eventually come back. And even during the years without that power, he still had people he was willing to stand beside when things went to hell.
