By Uncanny #214, Alison is working with Lila Cheney when Malice takes possession of her. The X-Men have to deal with an attacker who is using their friend's body.
That pulls her much closer to the team, but she doesn't arrive without baggage. There's the failed career, her history with Rogue, and the fact that being near the X-Men means getting dragged into more of the trouble she originally wanted to avoid.
Rogue trying to make things right doesn't fix their relationship in one conversation. They have to actually work together. Alison has to see what Rogue does now instead of just being told she's different.
And Alison starts putting in the work too. She has plenty of experience using her powers by this point. What she's having to learn is how to function inside this particular team, with all these other personalities and histories running into each other.
