When the Reavers take the base back, the remaining X-Men have already gone through the Siege Perilous. Wolverine comes back and gets absolutely wrecked. They leave him nailed to a cross. Jubilee is still there. In #251–252, she helps him get down and hides him. She's frightened, he's badly injured, and there isn't a healthy team of X-Men waiting around the corner to take over. She ends up looking after him while he's in terrible shape. People associate Jubilee with Wolverine taking care of her, but their relationship begins with her taking care of him. She doesn't meet him as some indestructible guy who can solve everything by popping his claws. She sees how badly he can be hurt and stays with him anyway. That also gives their later arguments a little more context. When she thinks he's pushing himself too hard, she's already seen what happens when his body can't keep up.
