Where I'm stopping, Alex has chosen to remain in Genosha and keep an eye on what happens there after Hodge. Rahne stays too. He doesn't just leave with the others once the fighting ends. The books have put a lot of distance between him and the man who wanted a quiet life with Lorna. He's been a frightened new mutant, a reluctant superhero, a man trying to leave, a member of the supposedly dead X-Men, Madelyne's lover, and an amnesiac working for a country that enslaves mutants. That's a lot to put on somebody before the next major story even starts. Some of his worst decisions are his own. Some are made under circumstances where he doesn't have normal control of himself. The distinction matters, especially with a character who gets manipulated this often. And the relationship with Scott stays interesting because they don't respond to the same life in the same way. Alex can be extremely capable without wanting to spend the rest of his life being measured against his brother.
