Johnny is the one who becomes the Mad Hatter. He's still Calie's brother and Violet's uncle, which makes what he does to the family that much worse. Calie knows who he was before all of this. There's also Uncle Drake. Drake is Alice's brother, so he's Calie and Johnny's uncle. He abused Johnny, and he becomes a Hatter too. Johnny later encounters him in Wonderland. So if you've seen both names attached to the Mad Hatter, they aren't two names for the same man. Drake and Johnny are different people from different generations of this family. You have to keep track of which Hatter you're reading about. Johnny had already been hurt before Wonderland got hold of him. Knowing that gives you more of his history, but he goes on to hurt other people himself. Calie has to deal with the brother she grew up with becoming somebody she needs to protect her daughter from.
