There's also the future Wolverine in Uncanny X-Men #142. A Sentinel kills him during their attack on its base. That's Logan from the future shown in Days of Future Past. It isn't the present-day Wolverine dying in the main part of the story, but it certainly shows that a Wolverine having a healing factor doesn't guarantee he'll survive whatever hits him. Between that, the Brood, the Reavers and the crystal, there are a lot of different situations to keep separate. One is an outside power helping him. One is his body fighting an infection. Another is somebody hurting him badly enough that he can barely get away. The people around him matter in those situations. Katie and Jubilee don't just stand there watching an invincible guy handle everything. They help because he needs help. That's what gets lost when the healing factor becomes “he'll be fine” before a fight even starts. These stories give him plenty to survive, and surviving can still leave him hurt, exhausted and dependent on somebody else until he recovers.
