Uncanny X-Men #205, “Wounded Wolf,” is a really clear example of Wolverine needing time. Lady Deathstrike and the cyborgs have hurt him badly enough that he's disoriented and struggling to remember himself. Katie Power helps him keep away from them while he starts recovering. If she hadn't been there, those attackers would still have been chasing a badly injured Logan who wasn't thinking clearly. His healing doesn't make her unnecessary. She's helping him survive long enough for it to work. Then you get #251 and what the Reavers do to him. He pulls himself off that wooden X, but he's in terrible shape. When he sees Jubilee, he asks for help. He doesn't free himself and immediately bounce back like the torture was nothing. Getting loose has already taken a tremendous effort, and now he needs somebody else. Those are two different young characters helping Wolverine when he can't just take care of everything himself. He can survive a lot more than most people, but there are still times when somebody being there for him makes a huge difference.
