By #37, the fight between Wolverine and Deathstrike is going through different points in time. They pass through things connected to her history, including her transformation, and end up back around the events of “Wounded Wolf.” Logan remembers what she did to him there. So now they're fighting in a place where they've already hurt each other, while trying to get out of this whole mess. When Logan and Puck are back, the photograph has changed. Logan is in it now. The picture Puck was looking at before the trip actually shows that Wolverine was there. That's a lot to fit into three issues: a visit with Puck, people from his past, the Spanish Civil War, Deathstrike's pursuit and a fight that keeps landing in different times. And it gives Puck plenty to do. He's the reason the trip has a personal connection beyond Wolverine and Deathstrike, because those people in Spain were already part of his life. Logan gets pulled into all of it during what was supposed to be a chance to relax with an old friend.
