Weapon X is the Barry Windsor-Smith story that ran in Marvel Comics Presents #72–84 in 1991. It's set earlier in Logan's life, so by the time this was published, readers had already had years of Wolverine in the X-Men and in his own stories. Then you get to see what these people did to him. They take Logan, put him through the adamantium procedure and try to make him something they can control. He doesn't get a say in any of it. His ability to survive gives them a body they can do terrible things to, and they keep going. The metal skeleton is something we're already used to by then. We know he has it. We know what he can do with the claws. This story spends time on how he got put through that process, with people standing around treating him like an experiment. And that's rough when you've already seen him living his own life. You've seen him with Mariko, with Kitty and with his friends. These people are working on him like none of that kind of life should ever matter.
