“Save the Tiger” in Marvel Comics Presents #1–10 and the opening of the 1988 Wolverine series give Logan a lot to do in Madripoor. You've got the Princess Bar, Tyger Tiger, crime bosses, people with money and people trying to survive. There are plenty of reasons for somebody to get into trouble there without a team of mutants arriving on a mission. Logan starts operating as Patch, with the eyepatch and a different look. He's dealing with people who have their own businesses and their own grudges. Getting through a situation can mean knowing who you're talking to before you decide to threaten them. It gives him a place to keep coming back to outside the mansion. There are recurring people, places and problems, so the solo stories have something to build on beyond finding another villain for him to fight that month. And it fits the parts of his life that have already been coming out. He's been employed by a government, he's got history in Japan, and he's comfortable dealing with people who aren't going to follow the same rules as the X-Men.
