Going back through Wolverine's early appearances, there's a lot here that's easy to forget. He shows up to fight Hulk and Wendigo, joins the X-Men, and then you spend years finding out who this guy actually is. His name, his past in Canada, Mariko, Japan, all of that gets filled in as you go. Even the claws coming out of his hands is a surprise to his teammates early on. Then you've got Sabretooth. Early Sabretooth was getting his ass kicked a lot. He's already dangerous, but he isn't being written like the Sabretooth who shows up in the Mutant Massacre yet. So I want to go through those earlier appearances, including the Japan stories, Kitty, Sabretooth and the move into Patch and Madripoor. There's a lot between Wolverine turning up in a Hulk comic and having enough of his own history, friends and enemies to carry an ongoing series outside the X-Men.
