The four-issue Realm Knights series picks up after Unleashed. The gods have withdrawn from Earth, and weapons they left behind have ended up in government custody. One of those weapons belongs to Cronus, who has escaped from Tartarus and wants it back.
He doesn't begin with an army marching through the front door. He gets inside Hibocorp posing as an agent and steals his scythe. The people responsible for securing it have no idea who they are dealing with until the weapon is back in his hands.
There are two scythes, and Cronus needs the pair. Together, they can manipulate time. The second one is with Hades in the Underworld, so retrieving it becomes the Knights' assignment. Get there first and keep Cronus from recovering the rest of his power.
Shang and Agent Ciampo bring the team together. Sela, Britney, and Nathan return, Robyn is taken out of prison, and Liesel Van Helsing joins them. Heather is gone following Unleashed. Liesel, who has been staying with Sela, volunteers to come along on this mission.
Hades is not interested in handing over the scythe. Cronus is his father. He knows what is coming and intends to use the weapon himself. The Knights need to stop Cronus too, but arriving with the same enemy doesn't make this a friendly meeting.
The people watching the operation disagree about how to handle him. Wisnowski wants Hades killed. Ciampo allows Sela to try handling the confrontation her way. There is a chance to settle the argument without turning the mission into another battle, until Cronus arrives and takes that choice away from everybody.
The fight goes badly. Hades makes a desperate move that appears to destroy him, Britney, Robyn, Liesel, and the scythe. Sela and Nathan escape believing the others are dead.
Sela has to face losing people she brought into the mission, and there is no pause in the emergency to deal with it. Cronus is still out there. Ciampo introduces Neptune as their next ally, while Shang tries to get Sela through the shock and back into the fight.
But the missing Knights aren't dead. Hades has taken them deeper into the Underworld. Britney, Robyn, and Liesel are still with him, along with the weapon Cronus wants. They have survived the attack, but they are trapped on the wrong side of the search while Sela has no idea there is anyone left to rescue.
Neptune has another problem: his trident is broken. Bringing a god onto the team won't be enough if he cannot use the weapon they need against his father.
Then Cronus catches up with Hades and takes the second scythe. The Knights have lost the race. He leaves for Greece, raises Olympus from its ruins, and sets himself up with an army of Hydra while people flee the area.
The survivors follow him. Sela and Nathan are preparing their own return to the fight. The two halves of the team are heading toward the same place, but Cronus now has everything they were sent to keep away from him.
