4/8 Vampires: The Eternal follows Samira as she tries to get her old allies under her rule. Werewolves: The Hunger follows Roman into a facility where humans are experimenting on the people infected by the creature he is chasing. Samira expects the Black Death to accept her as queen, but she has a lot of history with these vampires. Vanessa and Mund pretend to go along, then attack her in her own court. Blaine, who originally turned Samira, comes to her aid and wants her to spare Vanessa. Samira kills Vanessa anyway. Ravenous kills Fatima, and Samira kills Blaine too. Even his promise to stand by her does not save him. By the time she returns to the Being, she has cut down the old relationships that might have competed with her loyalty to him. She still believes he will reward her. Meanwhile, Liesel's backup follows her through a world that has changed while she was away. She searches for Sela, runs into Masumi, and asks for help reaching her old friend. That search catches up with the reunion in the main book while Samira is dealing with the Black Death. Roman's branch follows an escaped werewolf and the people caught in its path. Charlotte, a bitten girl, ends up in the hands of a facility interested in her condition. The pursuit eventually takes Roman into HiboCorp, where the treatment of the infected is its own horror. Roman is ruthless with infected people, including people who never chose any of this. At the end, he stands in front of Charlotte after her transformation and decides the girl is gone. He raises his blades, convinced that stopping the wolf is the only way to stop its suffering and keep it from spreading the infection. That is the man Sela is relying on when she brings the Hunters back together. Samira comes out of her book having cut down people from her own past. Roman comes out of his after seeing what the modern world is doing with the creatures he hunts. Sela will be counting on him while Samira is counting on an arrangement he has kept from the team. Their paths are about to meet again.
