3/8 In “Day Breaks,” Zeus and Neptune confront the Being with Heather Angelos. The Being overpowers them and kills Heather. Hades gets the survivors out, but the damage is done. The gods cannot stop him here, and he can use their divine essence to help open the Shadowlands. On Earth, the returning Hunters are scattered. Liesel reconnects with Sela during the vampire attacks, but their reunion quickly becomes another fight they cannot win on their own. Belinda is the one who gets them out of it. Belinda being alive is already a surprise. Belinda turning up as the person Sela needs is a much bigger complication. Their history does not disappear because they now have a common enemy. In Part 2, Belinda explains that her return involved the Shadowlands and a magical staff. Liesel examines the weapon, while Sela has to decide how much trust she can place in the person carrying it. The staff can absorb magical energy, which sounds useful when the enemy keeps throwing everyone around. But Belinda found it in the Shadowlands. Nobody should be entirely comfortable with where this supposed solution came from. Shang's disappearance drives the next move. Samantha gathers the missing Hunters, and Sela's group attacks Samira's Antarctic stronghold. The fight exposes portals inside the castle, giving Sela something she can act on directly. Destroying that stronghold and its portals is an achievement, but Shang is not waiting there to be rescued. Samira points them back toward the Shadowlands and escapes. They have managed to destroy a base and close some doors, but they still do not have Shang. The Being is still free. And Sela is depending on Belinda while warning her that any connection to the Being will not be forgiven. Belinda keeps helping anyway. Their history is right there between them, even when they are fighting on the same side.
