UNLEASHED

UNLEASHED 1/8 I've already spent some time on the vampires, werewolves, zombies and demons in Grimm Fairy Tales. Now I want to put Unleashed back together as an event, because the four creature books are only part of what is happening here. The Being opens the Shadowlands and brings those threats back to Earth. Sela has to reconnect with the Hunters she left behind, accept help from Belinda, and find Shang. Meanwhile, the gods are discovering that the creature directing the invasion can threaten them too. And by the end, getting the monsters off Earth is only one of the things Sela has to worry about. First, the numbering needs a little explanation. The original core runs like this: Unleashed #0, “The Game.” Unleashed #1, “Day Breaks.” Grimm Fairy Tales #85, which is Part 2. Grimm Fairy Tales 2013 Annual, Part 3. Grimm Universe #5, Part 4. Grimm Fairy Tales 2013 Special Edition, Part 5, “Night Falls.” Grimm Fairy Tales Giant-Size 2013, Part 6. That is a prologue and six main chapters across several titles, not six consecutive issues of a regular Unleashed series. The companion material is Hunters: The Shadowlands #1–5 and three issues each of Vampires: The Eternal, Werewolves: The Hunger, Zombies: The Cursed and Demons: The Unseen. There is also the short prequel “A Shadow Falls.” The original Realm Knights one-shot connects to this period too, and belongs in the discussion of that team's launch. Hunters supplies the earlier shared history. The creature miniseries follow different people and sometimes overlap scenes from the core, so reading every book in a single straight line does not mean every scene moves forward in time. Keeping each miniseries together is a workable way to follow its own story. It helps to finish those branches before “Night Falls,” because several of their loose ends come back there. Full spoilers here for the original event and those companion stories. The Hunters, the gods and the people caught in the monster attacks all end up paying for the Being's plans.
