3/6 Sela sends Mercy farther into the Inferno to bring back another lost soul. She says he'll matter in the struggle over humanity. Mercy has a deadline, and being dead doesn't make this safe. If she's killed down here, her soul will be left exposed to the creatures around her. She's well equipped for the fighting. She's spent years killing people and knows how to keep moving when things go wrong. This time she's trying to get someone out, using abilities she gained doing a lot of harm. The mission gives her somewhere else to put those skills, even though it can't change how she learned them. Sela is offering her a chance at redemption, but she also needs this job done. She knows far more about what's happening than Mercy does. Mercy has to trust her explanation, go deeper into Hell, and bring back someone whose importance she only knows through Sela. Whatever Sela has planned for him, Mercy is the one taking the risk to get him out.
