THE DREAM EATER SAGA • 8/10 Sela and Belinda spend the Inferno chapter trying to protect the Dark One. After everything he's done to them, that's a difficult position to be in. He's taken human form and is hiding in Inferno. They need him to draw the Dream Eater into their trap, and they still need answers from him. Finding him should get them closer to both. Mercy Dante has other plans. She gets into the hotel where he's staying and attacks him. Sela and Belinda try to stop her, but their explanation about the Dream Eater doesn't change her mind. She has her own reasons for wanting him dead, and she isn't putting those aside for their plan. She shoots him. Sela and Belinda appear to have lost the person they needed, until Sela restores him to life so they can continue. This is where bringing all these characters together becomes a problem for the characters themselves. Mercy is going after a target from her own story. Sela and Belinda need him alive. They're trying to explain why she should help them protect someone she's there to kill, and she's not interested. Even getting him out of that situation doesn't solve everything. Baba Yaga is waiting for her chance to kill him too. The group needs the Dark One as bait, while some of the people involved want him dead before the trap can do its job. Getting everyone to the same place is only part of the problem.
