2. When the old story catches up with Sela The giant story is told while Sela is dealing with the aftermath of the Dream Eater Saga. In Myst, she hears an elder recount the earlier age and the giant killer who became connected to the Dark One. She is also preparing to try to recover Erik's soul. The next issue brings those pieces closer together. Sela and Druanna begin their journey toward Limbo, while Jack is established on the side of its ruler. A name from a story about an earlier threat now belongs to someone involved in the danger ahead of them. That is a useful way of building the realm's history. The giants don't have to appear in every later scene for their presence to remain important. What Jack did to them shapes the reputation he carries into another conflict. Sela is moving toward a place where that reputation has practical consequences. It also makes the title “Giant Killer” less reassuring than it might sound. The name tells you something about his capabilities. To know what those capabilities mean for the people in front of him, you have to look at his allegiance and the work he is doing now. For the giants themselves, these issues are a piece of Myst's past rather than a complete guide to every giant in the Grimm universe. Their fall helps explain how a dangerous figure gained his name, and why that figure's return to the ongoing story deserves attention.
