Wonderland #9 also gives Violet room to act against the danger, rather than leaving her as someone who only waits to be rescued. That matters in a story where the Flowers want to decide what she will become.
Red Rose's own beginning makes that attempt at corruption particularly bleak. A woman whose children were taken from her is now part of a threat aimed at another mother's daughter. The history has not taught her to spare the next family.
That is the connection that holds her origin and the Club Excess story together. The Flowers' appearance can make them seem like another decorative piece of Wonderland turned deadly, but Rose carries a specific human history into that role.
Remembering Elizabeth Bathory, Gerald, and the bargain with Baba Yaga gives the character more weight. The victims in her past include her own family and the women she sacrificed. The people she threatens afterward show that her revenge did not bring the violence to an end.
