The White Knight brings a different background into the realm. Leon du Lac is the son of Lancelot and Guinevere, raised by Merlin. His origin connects Wonderland to an Arthurian history, rather than beginning with the Liddle or Allen households.
Leon enters through a mirror while fleeing an attack. He becomes a champion against the Queen of Hearts' forces, so his first place in Wonderland is a heroic one. Then the Queen of Spades directs his attention toward creatures that have crossed into the world he came from.
After returning and defeating one of those creatures, Leon kills a man during a confrontation. He gives way to the darkness he had been resisting and ends up serving the Queen of Spades.
His story broadens what being altered can mean. A person can retain the shape and title of a knight while the purpose of that strength changes. Following Leon's origin means looking at the decisions behind the armor, rather than assuming the heroic appearance tells the whole story.
