9/9 Emma Legrasse enters the story as a detective investigating disappearances connected to Wonderland. In Madness of Wonderland, the investigation, the Lovecraft journal, and the murders around her draw her further into the same world she is trying to understand. She becomes the Madder Hatter. That is a different route from Drake's or Johnny's. Emma begins on the side of an investigation, looking for answers, and ends up wearing an identity associated with the violence. Her later pursuit of Calie and Violet alongside Dark Cheshire belongs to the ongoing series, and that pursuit continues into Wonderland: Asylum. So the Hatter's history has to preserve the people inside it: John, Drake, Johnny, Sammy, and Emma. They have different pasts, different victims, and different degrees of control over what happens to them. The hat connects those lives. Looking closely at who is wearing it keeps the human cost visible, instead of letting the familiar silhouette swallow every individual story.
