6/9 Beyond Wonderland brings Johnny back into Calie's life when she is trying to build a future in New York. The threat now follows her into the ordinary world, and Johnny knows exactly which relationships he can use against her. Brandon is taken through a mirror, leaving Calie to believe he has abandoned her. Later, her confrontation with the Hatter at the Empire State Building seems to end with a decisive victory. Even that does not hold: his severed head reaches Wonderland, and he returns. The hospital sequence turns that survival into something worse. Johnny uses Brandon's skin as a disguise and takes Calie's newborn daughter, Violet. He makes the appearance of someone she loves into another way of reaching her. This is where the Hatter's ability to wear other people becomes more than a grotesque visual. Calie cannot safely trust the familiar face in front of her. The attack reaches into the life she was trying to reclaim and turns intimacy into a weapon.
