8. Hades: the underworld is only part of his character
Hades belongs beside Zeus and Neptune as one of the three brothers, but his position immediately complicates the assumption that the underworld ruler must be the villain. In the Godstorm setup, he refuses Venus's proposed campaign against humanity and is confined in the underworld.
His later involvement with Liesel Van Helsing places him close to the human side of the Grimm Universe. Their relationship matters because it gives him an emotional life outside the job, reputation, and imagery attached to his name.
The distinction is worth keeping in mind throughout these stories. A frightening title does not tell you everything about someone's choices. Hades can be powerful, intimidating, and deeply flawed without being interchangeable with every demon or every force associated with death. His relationships with his brothers, Liesel, and his daughter need to be considered separately rather than collapsed into a generic evil-god role.
