10/18 Charlotte makes that problem much harder to keep abstract. She is a young girl who has been bitten, and she becomes caught up in a facility studying her condition. The story eventually takes Roman into HiboCorp and exposes atrocities being committed there. Now the danger is coming from more than one direction. There is the condition itself, the hunter pursuing it, and the people treating an infected child as something to study and exploit. That does not make every werewolf harmless. It makes it impossible to reduce everyone involved to a simple division between innocent humans and evil creatures. Human institutions can be part of the horror too.
