Dark Cheshire brings the name into the ongoing series with a history and choices of his own. He is dangerous, hostile, and involved with the Madder Hatter. Then Wonderland #17 gives us one of the moments I wanted to come back to. A frightened boy is in the house, trying to understand why his foster parents are dead. The boy asks Cheshire when they will stop being dead. Cheshire tells him he will not hurt him, gets him upstairs, and tells him to stay quiet until morning. The boy calls him a good kitty. There is something powerful about that exchange because the boy sees a possibility in him that the surrounding horror would seem to rule out.
