BLAKE

BLAKE Blake belongs in this group because he stands beside Sela when that becomes dangerous. He and Bolder are caught in Orcus's demands too. They aren't safely watching someone else's crisis unfold. When the siege becomes a battle, Blake helps defend Tallus alongside its forces. The contrast is hard to miss: the city has considered giving the outsiders up, and one of those outsiders is now fighting for it. His role also gives the defense a practical side. While Sela and Druanna deal with the magical problem, there is still an attack that has to be resisted. Holding a position and keeping an enemy occupied matter even when the eventual turning point involves enormous supernatural power.
