SELA MATHERS Sela's problem in Tallus is control. Having enough power to hurt an enemy doesn't mean she can safely use it in a crowd of frightened civilians. When the townspeople turn on her, defending herself could mean harming the people she would otherwise protect. That makes her situation more interesting than a simple question of who is strongest. Her power is an asset, but it also creates responsibility. Druanna's intervention gives her a chance to survive without solving the problem by destroying everyone around her. Their eventual cooperation matters because each supplies something the other needs. Sela brings power that Druanna can help direct. The answer comes through working together rather than Sela suddenly becoming perfectly in control of everything.
