Shon'du is another member of that original group, and his introduction makes a useful distinction between what he can do physically and what he actually wants to do. Under Orland's control, he attacks Sinbad while apologizing for it. The action and the person's wishes are working against each other. Later, in Egypt, he's involved in finding the guide for the next part of their journey. That gives him something to do beyond being another body in the crew's fights. Getting the right person to help them reach their destination is part of keeping the adventure moving too. His place in the group comes through those smaller interactions as well as the fights. Finding help, dealing with people outside the crew, and sharing the journey all give him a part in what happens. Having seen him forced into violence at the beginning, the fact that he can now take part in the journey on his own terms is enough to give those later appearances some context.
